High duties in heating and cooling with water or water-glycol, in oil cooling and in condensing steam.
There is no gasket between the media that could age or would need replacing. The unit is cleaned by chemical flushing rather than by brush or lance. If a medium carries solids or fouls heavily, we recommend a filter upstream of the unit or the fully dismountable type.
Design and limits
It belongs to the welded ranges: a tube coil in a stainless steel shell, no gasket between the media. Flanged connections on the tube and shell side, available with profiled tubes that transfer more heat for the same area.
| Type designation | SC-SG |
|---|---|
| Operating temperature | up to 160 °C |
| Operating pressure | up to 16 bar |
| Connections | Flanges on tube and shell side |
| Tubes | plain or profiled |
| Dismountable | no |
The limits do not necessarily apply at the same time. The sizing and the quote are binding.
Strengths
- The largest sizes of the standard type, for high duties
- Stands on feet, installed on the floor or on a foundation
- Available with profiled tubes that transfer more heat for the same area
- Belongs to the welded ranges: no gasket between the media
Limits
- Lower temperature limit than the high-temperature and the partly dismountable type
- Needs an installation area on the floor or on a foundation
- Cleaned by chemical flushing rather than by brush or lance
Pressure and temperature limits
The types differ in their temperature and pressure limits. The table above gives the values for this type; the comparison shows all types side by side.
The limits do not necessarily apply at the same time. The configurator checks the temperature limit itself during selection; operating pressure and material are fixed in the quote.
Materials
Shell, tube coil and nozzles are made of stainless steel 1.4307 or 1.4404, flanges, where fitted, of painted steel or stainless steel. The quote fixes which material fits.
The hot medium flows through the tube coil, the cold one through the shell. The coil absorbs the different thermal expansion of tube and shell.
When the smaller sizes are not enough
If the area of the smaller standard sizes is not enough, the configurator picks the fitting sizes with the smallest area across all types it sizes itself. That can be one of the large sizes or a size of another type. Another option is several units working in parallel; you set their number in the configurator (one unit if left blank). Which fits better depends on duty, temperatures and permissible pressure drops.
The large sizes stand on feet. Plan an installation area on the floor or on a foundation for them.
Selection and sizing
You do not have to pick the type in advance. The configurator determines type and size from your operating data: media, temperatures, mass flows and permissible pressure drops. Where the calculation model ends, our team does the sizing, for example with a pressure-drop limit on an oil, glycol or steam side.
Our team reviews the sizing; only the sizing and the quote are binding. The guide explains what the sizing works with.
