Typical duties are cooling the oil of individual machines, such as hydraulic units, gearboxes or machine tools, plus small water duties.
There is no gasket between the media that could age or would need replacing. The unit is cleaned by chemical flushing rather than by brush or lance. If a medium carries solids or fouls heavily, we recommend a filter upstream of the unit or the fully dismountable type.
Design and limits
It belongs to the welded ranges: between the two media there is nothing but stainless steel tube, no gasket. The hot medium flows through the tube coil and is connected by flanges. The shell side for the cold medium has threaded connections.
| Type designation | SC-K |
|---|---|
| Operating temperature | up to 160 °C |
| Operating pressure | up to 16 bar |
| Connections | Flange on the tube side, thread on the shell side |
| Tubes | plain |
| Dismountable | no |
The limits do not necessarily apply at the same time. The sizing and the quote are binding.
Strengths
- A small, slim unit for tight spaces
- Belongs to the welded ranges: no gasket between the media
- Threaded shell side that suits screwed pipework
Limits
- Meant for small duties
- Plain tubes only, no profiled version
- Cleaned by chemical flushing rather than by brush or lance
Pressure and temperature limits
The types differ in their temperature and pressure limits. The table above gives the values for this type; the comparison shows all types side by side.
The limits do not necessarily apply at the same time. The configurator checks the temperature limit itself during selection; operating pressure and material are fixed in the quote.
Materials
Shell, tube coil and nozzles are made of stainless steel 1.4307 or 1.4404, flanges, where fitted, of painted steel or stainless steel. The quote fixes which material fits.
The hot medium flows through the tube coil, the cold one through the shell. The coil absorbs the different thermal expansion of tube and shell.
Cooling the oil of individual machines
Hydraulic units, gearboxes and machine tools often need little cooling duty, but a unit that fits next to the machine. That is what the compact type is for: the hot oil flows through the tube coil and connects by flanges, the cooling water through the shell with its threaded connections.
Oil calculates differently from water: its viscosity governs heat transfer and pressure drop. The guide to oil cooling explains what matters in the sizing.
Selection and sizing
You do not have to pick the type in advance. The configurator determines type and size from your operating data: media, temperatures, mass flows and permissible pressure drops. Where the calculation model ends, our team does the sizing, for example with a pressure-drop limit on an oil, glycol or steam side.
Our team reviews the sizing; only the sizing and the quote are binding. The guide explains what the sizing works with.
