Threaded type

The threaded type connects on the tube and shell side by threads. That keeps the unit light and makes it easy to fit into threaded pipework.

Threaded type (SC-G) - 3D model

For plants with threaded pipework in the small and medium duty range: oil and lubricant cooling, process water, heat recovery.

There is no gasket between the media that could age or would need replacing. The unit is cleaned by chemical flushing rather than by brush or lance. If a medium carries solids or fouls heavily, we recommend a filter upstream of the unit or the fully dismountable type.

Design and limits

It belongs to the welded ranges: a tube coil in a stainless steel shell, no gasket between the media. Some sizes are available with profiled tubes that transfer more heat for the same area.

Type designation SC-G
Operating temperature up to 160 °C
Operating pressure up to 16 bar
Connections Threads on tube and shell side
Tubes plain or profiled
Dismountable no

The limits do not necessarily apply at the same time. The sizing and the quote are binding.

Strengths

  • Threads on the tube and shell side: light, and fits into screwed pipework without flanges
  • Belongs to the welded ranges: no gasket between the media
  • Some sizes with profiled tubes that transfer more heat for the same area

Limits

  • For the small and medium duty range
  • Threaded connections only, no flanges
  • Cleaned by chemical flushing rather than by brush or lance

Pressure and temperature limits

The types differ in their temperature and pressure limits. The table above gives the values for this type; the comparison shows all types side by side.

The limits do not necessarily apply at the same time. The configurator checks the temperature limit itself during selection; operating pressure and material are fixed in the quote.

Materials

Shell, tube coil and nozzles are made of stainless steel 1.4307 or 1.4404, flanges, where fitted, of painted steel or stainless steel. The quote fixes which material fits.

The hot medium flows through the tube coil, the cold one through the shell. The coil absorbs the different thermal expansion of tube and shell.

Fitting into threaded pipework

Where a plant is built with threaded pipework, the threaded type connects directly on both sides, without any flanges. That keeps the unit light and the installation simple.

Typical duties are cooling oils and lubricants, process water and recovering heat from warm circuits.

Selection and sizing

You do not have to pick the type in advance. The configurator determines type and size from your operating data: media, temperatures, mass flows and permissible pressure drops. Where the calculation model ends, our team does the sizing, for example with a pressure-drop limit on an oil, glycol or steam side.

Our team reviews the sizing; only the sizing and the quote are binding. The guide explains what the sizing works with.

When does the threaded type fit?

When the plant is built with threaded pipework and the duty is in the small to medium range, for example cooling oils and lubricants, process water or heat recovery.

Is the threaded type available with profiled tubes?

Some sizes are. Profiled tubes transfer more heat for the same area; the sizing decides which version fits.

How is the threaded type cleaned?

By chemical flushing rather than by brush or lance. It belongs to the welded ranges, and there is no gasket between the media.
