Low-pressure type

The low-pressure type is a large, partly dismountable unit for systems with a low operating pressure. It opens at the bolted flange rings at both ends of the shell.

Low-pressure type (SC-N) - 3D model

Heating and cooling with water or water-glycol in systems with a low operating pressure, where the unit should be able to open.

The unit can be opened at the bolted flange rings at both ends of the shell. If a medium carries solids or fouls heavily, please mention it in your enquiry: that is what the fully dismountable type is for, or we recommend a filter upstream of the unit.

Design and limits

A tube coil of plain stainless steel tube in a shell of large diameter, flanged connections on the tube and shell side. Bolted flange rings at both ends of the shell allow the unit to be opened.

Type designation SC-N
Operating temperature up to 160 °C
Operating pressure up to 6 bar
Connections Flanges on tube and shell side
Tubes plain
Dismountable partly

The limits do not necessarily apply at the same time. The sizing and the quote are binding.

Strengths

  • Opens at the bolted flange rings at both ends of the shell
  • Large shell, also for high duties
  • Flanges on the tube and shell side

Limits

  • Lower operating pressure than the welded ranges and the partly dismountable type
  • Lower temperature limit than the high-temperature and the partly dismountable type
  • Plain tubes only, no profiled version
  • The configurator does not size it itself; our team does

Pressure and temperature limits

The types differ in their temperature and pressure limits. The table above gives the values for this type; the comparison shows all types side by side.

The limits do not necessarily apply at the same time. This type is sized by our team, not by the configurator. Operating pressure and material are fixed in the quote.

Materials

Shell, tube coil and nozzles are made of stainless steel 1.4307 or 1.4404, flanges, where fitted, of painted steel or stainless steel. The quote fixes which material fits.

The hot medium flows through the tube coil, the cold one through the shell. The coil absorbs the different thermal expansion of tube and shell.

Sized by our team

The low-pressure type is not in the configurator's calculation catalogue, so it does not propose it on its own. If you need it, describe your duty in the configurator anyway and name the type in the “Application, particulars” field. Our team sizes it and comes back with a quote.

Its maximum operating pressure is lower than that of the welded ranges; the table above gives the value. For higher pressure with the same ability to open, the partly dismountable type is the one to choose.

Why does the configurator not propose the low-pressure type?

It is not in its calculation catalogue. Name it in the configurator's “Application, particulars” field and our team will size it.

How does it differ from the partly dismountable type?

Both open at the shell ends. The low-pressure type has a larger shell but takes less pressure and a lower temperature, and it has no profiled version.

What pressure does the low-pressure type withstand?

Less than the welded ranges and the partly dismountable type; the table on this page gives the limit. The sizing and the quote are binding.
